On a beautiful evening in Hanalei, I was hiding in the bushes waiting for Matt and Sara to show up. Matt had contacted me to organize a surprise wedding proposal. Sara, of course, had no clue what her man had been planning for weeks. Today was the big day. The weather was perfect and the sky was mostly blue with some patchy clouds and made for great lighting for a sunset photo shoot.
On a beautiful evening in Hanalei, I was hiding in the bushes waiting for Matt and Sarah to show up. Matt had contacted me to organize a surprise wedding proposal. Sara, of course, had no clue what her man had been planning for weeks. Today was the big day. The weather was perfect and the sky was mostly blue with some patchy clouds and made for great lighting for a sunset photo shoot. Crouching beside me was a guitarist, videographer, and photographer all raring to go at my signal.
About twenty feet away from us on the beach, I had made a circle of purple orchid blossoms. The purple looked beautiful against the golden sand and attracted attention of the people passing by it. One woman sat right beside the flower circle and started to take photos of it.
Just then I got a text from Matt that he and Sara were going to be there soon. He had told her they were heading to dinner at Baracuda in Hanalei after watching the sunset at the beach.
Soon enough we saw them walking down the beach towards the circle of flower petals. The woman hanging out by the flower petal circle left so all was clear for their arrival. As soon as Matt and Sara got closer, Harneet started snapping photos and Joel began to record the action. On reaching the flowers, Matt took Sara’s hand and stepped inside the circle. Before she could know what was happening, he got down on his knee and proposed. He told her how much he loved her and asked her to marry him. Tears of joy flowed down her face as she said YES.

I signaled to A.T. and he hurried out of the bushes with his guitar and started playing Matt & Sara’s favorite song. Harneet followed A.T. and started photographing the happy couple. Joel stayed back and employed his masterful video capturing skills from a distance. I brought them leis to give one another as well, as it is traditional to honor the one you love with a lei.
It was such an honor to be a part of Matt and Sara’s special day, it could not have gone better! Everything fell into place and it was such a perfect evening. Matt and Sara were over the moon as A.T. sang more beautiful love songs. Harneet and Joel captured these precious moments as the ocean, the sky, and the mountains blessed the happy couple. Talk about a good day at the office!
